Certification Examinations for Clinical Nephrology Technology & Biomedical Nephrology Technology

NNCO Mission Statement

The mission of the National Nephrology Certification Organization, Inc. is the development and administration of certification examinations in Clinical Nephrology Technology and Biomedical Nephrology Technology. NNCO is committed to providing quality services through the endorsement, and administration of comprehensive examinations, which validate an individual's qualifications and knowledge in specialized areas of Nephrology Technology.

About Certification

The National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO) endorses the concept of voluntary, periodic certification by examination for all individuals in the field of nephrology technology. Certification is one part of a process called credentialing. It focuses specifically on the individual and is an indication of current competence in a specialized area of practice. Certification in nephrology technology is highly valued and provides formal recognition in the profession of nephrology technology.

Nephrology Certification Examinations

NNCO offers three examinations: the Certification Examination in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT), the Certification Examination in Biomedical Nephrology Technology (CBNT), and the Certification Examination for Dialysis Water Specialists (CDWS). The examinations are administered for NNCO by Professional Testing Corporation (PTC) and are offered at proctored computerized facilities throughout the year in the United States and Canada.

Practice Tests

For those nephrology technicians interested in taking either the CCNT or the CBNT certification examination, the online practice test can give them an idea of what it is like. Each practice test consists of 50 questions, has a testing time of two hours, and is taken over the internet at any time. After completing the online practice test, the technician will receive an instant score report showing test performance in each of the content areas. Although the score report does not provide correct answers, technicians might find it helpful to review those areas of weakness indicated on the score report when preparing for the certification examination. Each practice test is available for $60, payable by credit card online. For more information, go to www.ptcny.com/clients/NNCO/ and scroll down to the section on Online Practice Tests.

The National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO) is uniquely qualified to provide certifications that meet the requirements of the CMS ruling. The examinations are developed by respected experts in the field and are updated periodically to reflect changes in the industry and current medical requirements. In addition, NNCO has partnered with Professional Testing Corporation (PTC) to ensure its credentialing process is psychometrically sound and meets appropriate standards for professional designation.
